Part of ARB’s integrated 4×4 suspension systems, Emu Dakar leaf springs are engineered to provide optimum ride performance irrespective of the operating conditions the vehicle’s suspension is required to work under.

Coil Springs

ARB designs an extensive range of Old Man Emu coil springs for each vehicle, using state of the art micro-alloyed spring steel to ensure superior resistance to sagging and corrosion. With such a wide range on offer, coil springs can be better matched to your specific load requirements and intended vehicle usage.

While ride height increases are attained, a greater emphasis is placed on ride control improvements. Further fine tuning is achieved when the springs are matched to a corresponding set of Old Man Emu shock absorbers, delivering a fully integrated system designed specifically to suit your vehicle.

Leaf Spring Features

  • Draw-tapered and diamond cut leaves ensure the load is progressively distribpick-upd over a larger surface area, reducing the high stresses that develop at leaf ends, increasing ride comfort and longevity
  • Leaf clamps are bolted to allow installation of anti-squeak nylon liners
  • Fully scragged to ensure the spring takes a permanent ‘set’ which reduces the risk of sagging
  • Load testing ensures the spring meets the required specification
  • Military wrap designed to provide added safety
  • Re-greasable nylon interleaf anti-friction pads reduce friction at the leaf tips where the load is the greatest
  • Flat axle seat area allows a positive, safe axle mount reducing spring stress and increasing spring life
  • The tension side of all leaves is shot peened to reduce spring stress. This process can double the life of a spring
  • Two-stage leaf pack featured on most rear springs for optimum comfort. When unladen, the vehicle is largely riding on the primary stage, with the secondary stage providing additional support when a heavy load is added

Parabolic Leaf Springs and Air Bag Kit

The OME team were tasked to re-imagine the leaf spring design and to maximise comfort of a leaf sprung ute while safely allowing the driver to adapt to varying weight conditions without compromise. Traditionally, you were forced to chose one or the other but now with the ARB Parabolic & Air Bag System, you can have both!

Parabolic Leaf Springs with an ARB Air Bag Kit gives you the flexibility to cater for varying load of up to 600kg. Therefore, whether it is tools during the week or a rooftop tent on the weekend; ARB’s Parabolic Leaf Springs and Air Bag Kit system has you covered and provides the new standard in comfort and weight carrying adjustability.

Taking the proven concept of a Parabolic Leaf Spring, OME have reimagined the design alongside the development of a new market leader Air Bag Kit. ARB are proud to deliver a truly engineered and integrated Parabolic Leaf Spring and Air Bag System that is both purposeful and safe for the vehicle.

An ARB Air Bag Kit must be purchased with the Parabolic Leaf Springs.

Parabolic Leaf Springs and Air Bag Kit Features

  • Additional comfort is achieved by a Parabolic Leaf Spring due to its ability to flex at a smoother rate and having the second stage removed
  • Parabolic Leaf Spring system is significantly lighter than the equivalent multi leaf section due to the increase in steel grade and a reduction in overall leaf springs making it easier and safer to install and reduces the overall GVM of the vehicle
  • An ARB Air Bag Kit gives you an additional load carrying capacity of up to 600kg over the Parabolic Leaf Spring selection chosen
  • Old Man Emu has engineered an all-new internal bump stop, which allows the Air Bag to be used unpressurised (0psi) so you can drive on it empty and inflate it when needed
  • Engineered purge valve included with the Air Bag Kit allows control of venting or storing air in the bag with a simple turn
  • The three ways of inflating and deflating the Air Bags in this kit are manually via the Schrader inflation valves, electronically via ARB Air Suspension Control or electronically via ARB LINX Vehicle Accessory Interface
  • Each Air Bag can be used from 0-45psi, which results in 0-600kg weight carrying capacity
  • Note: Existing GVM applications for the Toyota LandCruiser 70, 78 & 79 Series do not currently allow for the use of Parabolic Leaf Springs and an Air Bag Kit
  • Due to the second stage being removed on a Parabolic Leaf Spring, the Air Bag Kit is a mandatory fitment to ensure vehicle driveability & durability

Greasable Shackles

Should your Old Man Emu 4WD suspension system include leaf springs, bushingings require periodic lubrication to ensure longevity. OME greasable shackles and pins facilitate this without the need to remove the shackles, greatly reducing the time and effort involved.

Greasable Shackles Features

  • Unique, easy bolt together assembly eliminates out of angle ‘shackle pin to side plate’ problems commonly associated with press fit assemblies
  • Each pin has two grease inlet holes to guarantee maximum grease coverage between the shackle pin and the spring bushinging – increasing bushing life and improving ride quality
  • Heat treated pins ensure long life under heavy loads and off-road conditions
  • Side plates are zinc-plated for protection against corrosion

Torsion Bars

Old Man Emu Torsion Bars dramatically improve your vehicle’s ride and handling, both on road and off.

They are designed and set for optimum ride performance, while maintaining maximum wheel travel which is crucial during off-road driving. Old Man Emu Torsion Bars work best when Old Man Emu coil or leaf springs are fitted to the rear of your vehicle, with bars and springs then carefully matched to our premium range of 4WD shock absorbers. Together, they’ll transform your vehicle’s suspension performance.
